Many cosmetics and body care products have a long list of ingredients and often it takes some digging to figure out what the heck they are. Here at Action Wipes we believe that Mother Nature is pretty smart and sometimes we just have to get out of her way and trust what is already right in front of us. This is why we are so obsessed with simple, natural ingredients.
We often refer to our approach as skin food because many of the ingredients we use for body care products are also edible. In addition to coconut oil, honey is a key player in our product line. (If you missed it, check out our blog post on why we use honey).
Before we dive into coconut oil’s benefits, first we want to share a quick tutorial on how to read ingredients. Ingredients are always listed in order of their percentage within that particular product. Natural ingredients must be listed in Latin while any synthetic ingredients are listed by its technical name. Typically, you will also see a clarification or the “common” name of a natural ingredient listed alongside the Latin name.
OK, now let’s get down to it ...
The 2nd ingredient on the list for Action Wipes after water is a coconut oil derived emollient which has wonderful cleansing and conditioning properties for the skin. (Check out the full list of ingredients in Action Wipes here)
Coconut oil is a natural saturated fat, which includes Lauric acid. This is great for your skin because it provides tissue-supportive and -protective properties aka moisturizing and restorative benefits. Also coconut oil’s broad spectrum anti-microbial components help minimize the need for harsh preservatives. In addition to helping with shelf life, these antibacterial properties make it very useful for soothing rashes and the effects of sunburn and abrasions, which is another reason why you can use Action Wipes for minor wound care.
A couple fun facts about coconut oil
Coconut oil can be used as an oral detoxifier (aka “oil pulling”) that helps kill bad breath, prevent tooth decay and whiten teeth. To use it for this purpose, simply swish a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for a few minutes.
Coconut oil is a great choice for cooking. Since it is primarily a saturated fat it can hold up to much higher temperatures than other oils.
- Many people love to include coconut oil in smoothies as a way to get an ample serving of the healthy kind of fat.
